Passaic County is where J & J Gym Floors started and where our shop still is. We are based in Wayne, so for Paterson, Clifton, Passaic and the lake towns up north we are the local floor company, not the one that drives in.
Working in Passaic County, NJ
The county runs from dense, older city schools in Paterson and Passaic to small districts around the lakes in West Milford, Wanaque and Ringwood. The floors are just as varied: decades-old maple in brick school buildings, newer gyms in regional high schools, and church and community-center gyms that get used every night of the week.
Older city gyms often have dead spots, loose boards or old water stains from roof and radiator leaks. We fix those first, then sand and refinish so the repair blends in. For buildings that cannot close for long, a screen and recoat between seasons keeps the finish healthy until a full sanding fits the budget.
Because we are close by, we can come out quickly for a leak or a damaged board, take moisture readings, and tell you honestly whether it is a repair or a bigger job.

Planning a budget? Our gym floor refinishing cost guide explains what drives the price.
How long the gym is out of use: a dustless screen and recoat is the quick option between sandings. A full sand and refinish takes 8 to 10 working days plus about a week for the finish to cure, and our sanders catch about 98% of the dust.
We keep up with MFMA standards and use MFMA-approved finishes and MFMA-certified vendor products. We stand behind our work and our reputation proves it.

Frequently asked questions
Where are you located?
Our shop is in Wayne, in Passaic County. That makes Passaic County gyms some of the quickest for us to reach for estimates, repairs and emergencies.
Can you repair just part of a gym floor?
Yes. We replace damaged boards, fix dead spots and re-nail loose areas, then sand and finish so the patch matches the rest of the floor as closely as possible.
Do you work nights and weekends?
We schedule around your building. Many recoats in busy church and community-center gyms are done over a weekend or a holiday break.
How do I get an estimate?
Call or text 973-801-7219 any time, or send a request through our quote form. We come out, measure, look at the floor and send a written proposal.
