Screening and recoating can save you a lot of time and money over the lifetime of your hardwood sports floor.  Hardwood floor screening is a light sanding process that involves using a screen disk on a buffer.  After screening and cleaning, the floor is recoated using a finishing agent that seals the wood.  In most cases, a gym floor contractor will use polyurethane to seal the hardwood during recoating.

Screening and recoating also extend the period before your gym floor requires sanding and refinishing.  Sanding and refinishing is a much more in-depth process than screening and recoating.  It involves more time and labor to complete and also costs more.  With a proper annual or bi-annual screening and recoating plan, your hardwood floor will only require sanding and refinishing every 10 to 15 years.

Even if you run a busy facility with a packed schedule, screening and recoating won’t drastically impact your business and scheduling logistics.  But different recoating solutions come with different curing times. 

Some solutions need only 24 to 48 hours to cure, while others might take up to 14 days.  With this in mind, it’s vital to pick a solution that won’t have a detrimental impact on your demanding schedule.  Using a freshly renovated gym floor before it fully cures can mar the screening and recoating quality.
