The 2020 full sand and refinish

In June 2020 we sanded Immaculata’s gym floor down to bare wood and refinished it with a water-based finish. We also filmed a time-lapse video of the job.

Every year since

• 2021: recoated the gym floor with an oil-based finish.
• 2022: recoated the gym floor.
• 2023: top-nailed a dead spot in the floor, and recoated the floor that summer.
• 2024: recoated the gym floor and painted volleyball lines.
• 2025: recoated the gym floor.

Why it matters

A yearly recoat costs far less than a full sanding. Done on schedule, it protects the finish and the wood underneath, so the floor stays safe and good-looking for many seasons between sandings.
